Our monthly chapter meeting, with a presentation by Matt O’Donnell, who will present on understanding brook trout persistence in warming streams. Matt is a Research Ecologist with the USGS, Eastern Ecological Science Center at the S. O. Conte Research Laboratory in Turners Falls, MA. He has spent the last twenty years studying factors that influence population persistence of stream salmonids, in particular brook trout. Currently, Matt leads laboratory and field studies to determine whether brook trout can acclimate to increased stream temperature, and if so, can they adapt quick enough to keep pace with predicted stream temperature increases. Matt’s goal is to provide science to help managers determine which populations of brook trout are candidates for restoration or conservation.
