Down with the Dams! Learn about how dam removal projects are improving the health of a river near you!
Spearheaded by Save the Sound, the Dana Dam removal on the Norwalk River at Merwin Meadows Park in Wilton is the biggest project happening in the watershed. Scheduled for complete removal by the end of summer 2022, this project was only made possible by decades of advocacy work by the Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Norwalk River Watershed Association, Wilton Conservation Land Trust and others.
The removal of Dana Dam will open nearly 18 miles of fish passage on the Norwalk River from Factory Pond in West Redding all the way to Long Island Sound. This project will help keep the river cool, reconnect populations of wild and native trout, and expand habitat for CT endangered river herring and native sea lamprey. Stop by and learn about the project from key stakeholders and say goodbye to the dam once and for all!
