This is our second year and the second survey of this year. We will meet at the Miller Island parking lot on Saturday, August 23 at 7:00 AM. We will survey several different locations: above the weir, at the weir, Miller Island, above the River Bend area and the highway 61 bridge. These benthic surveys consider family groups and incorporates field identification for assessment purposes. The family groups include: scuds, sow bugs, mayflies, caddis flies and aquatic worms. These groups are considered to be intolerant of poor water quality, and therefore good indicators of overall stream health. We have developed a small team of volunteers for these events, but if you would like to help or want more information you should contact Dennis Baxter (dsbaxter1@gmail.com) or Bob Stephan (bobstephan59@me.com) for details. We will provide collection nets and beverages. If you need waders or boots contact Bob at the above email address for sizing information.
