Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, increasingly threatening the trout and salmon we all care about so deeply. The National Leadership Council’s (NLC) Climate Change Workgroup has been tackling this important issue since 2013, helping to educate TU members about climate change impacts through blogs and other outreach and resources, implementing polls of members’ climate change opinions, and working on climate change advocacy.
TU’s Senior Scientist, Dr. Helen Neville, has been an active member of the workgroup since its inception. In an effort to develop more training resources for the group, she has recently compiled examples of how TU’s boots-on-the-ground and advocacy work can help all of us address climate change. In her ~40 minute presentation Helen will 1) discuss current impacts of climate change, 2) overview public, scientist, and TU member opinions on the issue, and 3) walk through the various ways TU is helping. She will profile TU’s own scientific research, on-the-ground staff and grassroots-led restoration projects, tree planting efforts, and support of essential policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Spoiler alert: TU’s multi-faceted work helps address climate change on various fronts – and we should be inspired by our effectiveness and feel an urgency to do more if it!
