Clearwater Guest Speakers: John McKeeby and Eric Ayotte from The Schoharie River Center
*This event is free & open to the public. Chapter members are encouraged to bring guests.*
The Schoharie River Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educational and cultural programming about the Schoharie Creek and the communities which make up the Schoharie River Valley. Its mission is to instill the love for learning, arts and science, promote the values of stewardship for our local environment, and encourage the positive and responsible involvement of all individuals in their communities.
Formed in 1999, the SRC has operated and sponsored Environmental Study Team (EST) programs in the surrounding counties. EST gets teens outside and active to learn about ecology and the environment around them. Our students have been monitoring the water quality of the Schoharie Creek, its tributaries, the Mohawk River, and surrounding waterways and lakes.
Located in Burtonsville, NY, The Schoharie River Center is also active in a variety of community, historical and Cultural programs and activities. This year, the SRC is presenting the first annual Mayfly Film Festival, a mobile film festival focusing on short films that feature an array of environmental issues around the world. Presenting will be Executive Director, John Mckeeby, and Digital Media Specialist, Eric Ayotte, who will talk about the EST program and its effect, as well as how digital media can play a role in effective advocacy.
