Details
As flows begin to ramp down from Jackson Lake Dam, we are looking for citizen science volunteers to help document the effects of fish and macroinvertebrates stranding in the Upper Snake River. Because we are expecting a much, longer, more gradual ramp-down than in previous years, we will be starting with 2 days per week of observations, but may add a 3rd day if there is capacity and interest.
When: Wednesdays and Saturdays from September 16th to October 10th.
This effort is to better understand the ecological impacts of different ramp down management regimes, with a goal of providing water managers with information needed to manage flows more favorable for local fisheries, and a continuation of previous year's citizen science efforts. Each Wednesday and Saturday from September 16 to October 10, we need at least one group (ideally two) to float either Pacific to Deadman's or Deadman's to Moose, documenting fish stranding observations and taking photos with the TU Rivers app throughout the ramp down. Each boat must have a skilled rower familiar with the stretch who can safely navigate low water conditions, along with at least one observer (two preferred). If you'd like to row but don't have observers, we can help pair you with volunteers. With two boats per section, we can divide the river for greater coverage!
Please sign up HERE to reserve your spot! More information will be provided to those volunteering.
