Join the Mianus Chapter on March 14th for our monthly meeting at Waveny House in New Canaan!
This is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and meet fellow anglers and conservationists! This month, hear from Gerald Berrafati, Mianus TU coordinator, about our ongoing restoration efforts and vision for the Mianus River in Stamford, CT.
Our long term vision for the Mianus River is to restore it as a wild and native trout fishery right in our backyards. Bubbling up from the bottom of the Bargh Reservoir on the NY border, the Mianus River is a tailwater similar to the Farmington or Mill River in Easton. Up near the bottom release reservoir, the water is cold, about 50 degrees year round - even in the hottest summer months. However, the existence of several dams on the Mianus River slows down and heats up this water, making it inhospitable to trout further downstream towards Long Island Sound.
The Mianus Chapter of Trout Unlimited is currently in the preliminary stages of removing two dams in critical locations to get the cold water from the Bargh Reservoir moving further downstream. Plus, we're hoping to complete a major 1+ mile habitat restoration project within the Mianus River Park this summer. If you like to fish in the Mianus River Park, you'll want to hear all about this one!
Swing by Waveny House in New Canaan on Tuesday, March 14th to learn all about these exciting projects! Doors open at 6 pm. We'll have beer, wine, and some snacks!
Chapter members are free and open to the public - regardless whether you're a member or not! Feel free to invite friends, family members, and colleagues!
