Catskills Tree Planting Event- Willowemoc Creek
TU's Northeast Coldwater Habitat Team has recently completed a series of stabilization and habitat improvement projects along the Willowemoc Creek and a key tributary to it, Mongaup Creek. Both sites involved the creation and placement of in-stream habitat improvements that utilize large treefall and roots to create unique resting places for trout. On the banks and newly connected flood plain above, we'll be staging a mixture of native species in varying sizes to complete the development of a healthy riparian buffer. Join our staff and volunteers for planting at 10 AM. Additional details including a site map and exact planting site address will be provided upon registration. We'll have coffee, tea, water, and light snacks on hand.
Students from TU's college level collaborative program with Costa, 5 Rivers, will be joining us from around the Northeast!
We have plenty of shovels but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves, and refillable water bottles. Pick axes, pointed shovels, and small sledgehammers are also especially useful, feel free to bring any if you have them. If you have any questions, email jesse.vadala@tu.org
See you there!
