Cape Cod Trout Unlimited holds a general meeting on the second Wednesday of each month from September through May.  The February meeting has been moved to February 21st, due to Valentines Day.

The meetings are open to the public.  The meetings feature a speaker on topics ranging from exotic fishing trips and local hot spots to conservation and stream restoration.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided.  Doors open at 6:00PM for a social hour prior to the presentation.

We have added a Fly-Tying Demonstration to this event.   Pat Grenier and Ted Patlen will be providing a demonstration 5-6PM, before the social hour.

February 2024 - Presentation:  Capt. Ray Stachelek - Cinder Worm Hatch

Cinder Worm Mythology

Sex and the single worm; got your attention. Even the lowly cinder worm needs some loving. Thousands of them each spring leave their safe haven bottom, swim toward the surface in search of a mate. Remember propagation comes with some risks. Stripers by the dozens wait in ambush for a tasty meal as they approach the surface. Learn the salt pond secrets of their habit, travel, and the best time to fish the worm swarm. This presentation will improve your catch rate, fly selection, and the proper methods and locations to find fish.

About the Speaker:

Capt. Ray Stachelek is a Rhode Island guide and renowned saltwater fly tier.  A licensed U.S.C.G captain, he operates Cast a Fly Charters full time since retiring from teaching.  With almost sixty years on the Southern New England waterways, Ray has gained a wealth of knowledge about our fishery and ecosystem.  With thirty-three years as an educator, Ray has honed his teaching skills effectively to convey fishing education in a systematic and logical approach that anyone can understand.  His nationally known “Angel Hair Series” pioneered the use of Angel Hair in saltwater some thirteen years ago. Many of his saltwater patterns are listed in shop catalogs and are sold thru out the country. Glitter flies have become a main staple in blue water fishing.

Ray’s articles and photography have frequently appeared in such national magazines as Saltwater Fly Fishing, Fly Fishing Saltwater, and Fly Tier Magazine. He contributes to local newspapers and web sites. Ray demonstrates his tying techniques at national fly shows during the winter months. He does winter seminars for area fishing clubs. He is active in such local affiliates as Rhody Fly Rodders , the current President and United Fly Tyer’s RI and has served on the boards of both.
