The Camden Creek Stream Restoration Project will improve the stability and in-stream habitat for wild trout throughout 0.16 miles of Camden Creek. Following formal geomorphic surveys and site visits with USFWS, Dr. John Braico formulated a design plan to (1) increase lateral connectivity, so flood energy may be dissipated rather than focused on vulnerable banks, (2) reduce sediment load within Camden Creek, and (3) improve streambank stability further with native vegetative transplants and riparian planting.
This project will be completed during the week of August 12th, 2024. Timing of specific volunteer tasks can be difficult to predict during these types of restoration projects, but below is a tentative breakdown of the volunteer support needed each day:
- Monday, August 12th - cutting willows for staking (2-3 volunteers for ~3 hours)
- Tuesday, August 13th - preparing coconut fiber rolls for soil lifts (2-3 volunteers for ~3 hours)
- Wednesday, August 14th - placing coconut fiber rolls and willow stakes (2-3 volunteers, support will be needed periodically throughout the day)
Please come prepared with work gloves and water. Loppers will be provided for cutting willows and shears for cutting coconut fiber rolls.
If the schedule changes for any reason, we will contact those signed up as soon as possible.
