Welcome to Big Creek, a beautiful tributary of Oriskany Creek in Oneida County, New York. For over 120 years, Big Creek has been impounded, channelized and separated from its natural floodplain. Its a beautiful stream with many unique bends and features along it's course, which includes a portion that passes through the Village of Waterville. Trout Unlimited's Northeast Coldwater Habitat Team has partnered directly with the Village of Waterville, US Fish and Wildlife, Oneida County Soil & Water, and local professionals to complete Phase 3 of the Big Creek Restoration Project to not only improve in-stream habitat for wild trout, but generating design solutions to aid to the local community in challenges of hazardous flood mitigation.
Join local volunteers and watershed partners for a fun day of tree planting and community fellowship along Big Creek as we help the stream reestablish a natural forested buffer. Please be sure to bring a reusable water bottle and boots for work. Feel free to bring gloves or a favorite shovel, we will have plenty of both on hand as well. The tree planting is scheduled for 9am- Noon and we will have snacks & refreshments for all volunteers.
The event is free and open to the public. Bring a friend and come join us along the banks of Big Creek on September 13th @ 9am!
