Help the BLM and Ecometrics put the finishing touches on a beaver dam analog (BDA) on Cunningham Creek.
Friday, July 26th from 9am-3pm. Meet at Silverton Visitor Center, and we can coordinate rides to the site from there. Or even better, coordinate carpools from Durango beforehand. We'll send out an email to all volunteers on Wednesday or Thursday to help facilitate that.
What is a BDA, you ask? And why build one? Well, beavers are nature's best water movers, so we are going to try to mimic them to build more headwater storage in the Cunningham drainage. This allows the floodplain to be rejuvenated, creates refugia for trout and other aquatic life during climactic changes like drought, excessive heat, or wildfires, and brings back a more natural water regime to this area.
Please come ready to work with waders and boots, water, sunscreen, and snacks. 5RTU will provide lunch.
