There's nothing better than joining friends and neighbors to take care of a river we all love!
Join TU's Battenkill Home Rivers Initiative on Friday, August 23rd AND/OR Saturday, August 24th for a habitat improvement project along this historic and important coldwater river. Both days, we will start at 9am and work until at least lunchtime. Depending on the amount of work completed and interest of volunteers, we may continue work for some portion of the afternoon each day.
We'll be working in Manchester, VT along an Orvis property dedicated to conservation and sharing the opportunity of fly fishing with the local and widespread community.

Both days, we will start at 9am and work until at least lunchtime. Depending on the amount of work completed and interest of volunteers, we may continue work for some portion of the afternoon each day.
We'll be working in Manchester, VT along an Orvis property dedicated to conservation and sharing the opportunity of fly fishing with the local and widespread community.
This work will involve securing Christmas trees in the river with wooden posts using a gas-powered post-driver. Volunteer tasks will include:
- strategically trimming branches off the trees to ensure a flush fit to the stream bed
- moving trees 100-200 feet to the river
- tethering sections of 3-4 trees together
- positioning trees in the stream
- driving posts into the streambed/bank to secure the trees
TU events are great ways to engage the entire family - so bring out your kids and grandkids and help teach them the importance of working together as a community to care for and recover our rivers and streams.
We'll have all the necessary tools and materials, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and water bottles.
