Adopt-A-Highway

Rhode Island TU is continuing its commitment to keep a major roadway that runs through the Arcadia Management Area clean from roadside trash in 2024!  Chapter members volunteer four Saturday mornings between April to October to clean up roadside trash along Rte. 165 in Exeter, RI just below the confluence of the Falls and Flat Rivers to form the Wood River. 
A tradition of providing lunch for the volunteers was established several years ago by Lawson Cary, Jr. and it continues today by his son,  Lawson Cary, III.  Lawson is Treasurer of the chapter and also the organizer of the cleanups.  He provides home made lunches that is very much appreciated by the volunteers after the 1 1/2 hour walk along Rte. 165, especially the chicken soup following the same recipe his mom used when she made it for the volunteers for several years.
These outings are a great way for club members to get to know fellow club members, discuss latest trout fishing trends, or even a new fly pattern. 
Thanks to our RIDEM partners who pick up the collected trash from the Check Station for disposal.
