Arkansas River Fly Fish Tournament – Cast for Conservation

High school students are invited to the 2nd Annual Canon City High School Fly Fishing Tournament in Cañon City — where competitive angling meets conservation education like never before. Hosted by the Southern Colorado Greenback Chapter of Trout Unlimited, this two-day event is designed to inspire the next generation of river stewards while delivering an unforgettable experience on the iconic Arkansas River.

Open to high school students in grades 9–12, teams of two will compete in two fishing sessions on Saturday, October 10, with teams judged on the size and total length of the fish they catch. But this isn’t just about catching trout — it’s about learning to fish responsibly. Through hands-on conservation presentations, strict catch-and-release rules, barbless hooks, artificial streamers, and assigned beats, students will develop a deeper appreciation for protecting our local waters and wildlife.

Two Epic Days – Friday & Saturday, October 9–10, 2026

Friday, October 9 – Open Fishing & Welcome Evening

Saturday, October 10 – Competition Day Full schedule of team check-in, rules meeting, blind beat draw, two fishing sessions, lunch at Centennial Park, score verification, and Awards Ceremony & Dinner.

Eligibility & Registration

• Open to high school students (grades 9–12)

• Teams must consist of 2 students + 1 adult volunteer (18+)

• Entry fee: $25 per team

• Deadline: September 15, 2026 (register early — space is limited!)

• Students 16 and older must have a valid Colorado fishing license
