Class Cost:    $5 per week ($50) per person to be paid in advance for class materials

If you are at least twelve years old, you can sign-up for the class. Students between the ages of 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult student (18 or older) . The student-to-teacher ratio for this class is 3 -1.

You must pre-register using the form below.   Space and materials cannot be guaranteed for walk-ins.  Price for walk ins is $20 per session if space is available.

This class has a limit of 15 students. Enrollment is open until filled.

During each class, you’ll learn how to tie one of a group of flies that are all tied the same, but with different materials. The skill level of each class goes up each week so the first class is the easiest, and the last class the most difficult. Students will be expected to attend all the classes and be on time each afternoon, because it’s fun, and you’ll always be learning, and you don’t want to hold up the class.

After taking this class, you’ll know how to use all the common tools used in fly tying, and have a good idea as to what types of natural foods fish eat. You’ll also know how to tie hundreds of the most popular flies for fishing fresh water in New England and New York, just by following material lists for flies found on the internet or in books, the same way you tied the fly in class. (Fly patterns)

During the class, if you decide that you’d like to get serious enough of a tyer to have your own tools at home, we can help you with that.  For instance, we will use good quality rotary vises to tie with ( the vise holds the hook, which becomes a fly when you tie it. To tie at home, you’ll need a vise but not necessarily rotary, a toolkit, and tying materials. You can order the vises and toolkits through us, or on your own. Like fly fishing, the hobby can be a cheap one, or as expensive as you want to make it. We will naturally help you get started. Do not order without talking to us first, as you might be taken in by unscrupulous merchants. When you feel comfortable, come to our tying sessions, held several times a year.

Don’t forget to check out our Fly Casting Class, taught every April and May. Click here for more information on our casting class!

This is a quick-paced beginners course, designed so you’ll have time to tie up to three flies a session. The flies are yours to keep. If you haven’t taken our Fly Casting Course, sign up now, so you’ll be able to use your own self-tied flies.

We will be tying these flies (which by changing materials will allow you to tie hundreds of different patterns)
