Our National TU Mission is “We bring together diverse interests to care for and recover rivers and streams, so our children can experience the joy of wild and native trout and salmon” As a chapter we dedicate our service to meeting this mission. Additional information is available at: www.tu.org. Fishing is a thrilling, fun and healthy way to improve wellbeing and experience the great outdoors.
Banquet Details:
Host: Reed Gillespie Chapter, Trout Unlimited
Date and Time: February 1, 2024, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Location: Banyans on the Green, McCall Golf Course, 925 Fairway Dr., McCall, ID, 83638
Event Goal/Objective: To highlight the presence of the Reed Gillespie Chapter of Trout Unlimited in the west central mountains and to promote the principles of Trout Unlimited. We bring awareness of fisheries issues in our area. Also, we are working with partners to promote responsible use of our natural resources and efforts to restore and improve our cold-water fisheries and their habitat. At the same time, we share the thrill and excitement of fishing … especially among young people and those new to the sport.
How we’re meeting these goals: What our Chapter members are doing
· Participate in watershed restoration projects, planting trees and site restoration. Members planted trees in three different sites this past two years.
· Helped Idaho Department of Fish and Game set instream temperature data loggers for scientific studies.
· Participate in partner events, including watershed restorations projects, also Idaho Department of Fish and Game annual “Idaho Fish Fest” and Payette Children’s Forest, Take it Outside youth event. Chapter members have also participated in Valley Soil and Water Conservation District projects and planning activities.
· Annual fishing and river clean-up of the North Fork Payette River, when river flows allow, members float the river and pickup garbage… and a few fish along the way.
· Teach Fly Tying classes. The Chapter has close to 20 formal and informal fly-tying classes scheduled for the winter of 2023/2024.
· Annual fly rod casting lessons provide to the public in June on the MCHS annex lawn.
· Above all, members share stories, strategies, and techniques with like-minded hobbyists.
