Please join us for our annual Coldwater Meeting of the Tennessee Council of Trout Unlimited on February 24, 2024

The meeting will start at 10:30am eastern time and will be held at the Knox County Lawson McGee Library, Community Meeting Room (500 W Church Ave., Knoxville, TN 37902).  All Tennessee TU members are invited to attend.

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  PLEASE REGISTER by February 17th to ensure that we have enough food.

An agenda will be sent out at a later date, but here are the items that we expect to hear about.

The agenda for the Coldwater Meeting has traditionally focused on updates from our Federal and State agency partners with respect to their ongoing and planned near-term activities.  This near-term focus will remain an important element of the annual meeting.  However, the emergence of the Two Principal Coldwater Challenges compels reevaluation of our traditional resource planning horizons and our Coldwater Meeting focus. The importance of understanding what is happening in our coldwater ecosystems and fisheries, why it is happening, and how predicted climate change and human population growth in our region are likely to impact the long-term health of our coldwater resources, has never been greater.

It is with these realities in mind we announce the theme for 2024’s Tennessee Coldwater Meeting: “Preparing for Change”.  Each speaker at our upcoming meeting to provide a formal, twenty-minute viewchart presentation addressing this topic.  The twenty-minute presentation will be followed by a ten-minute Q&A session with the audience.

Each speaker address three specific questions in their presentation:

  1. What is your organization’s current view of the likely impacts over the next twenty-five years of the Two Principal Coldwater Challenges on the coldwater resources your agency stewards?
  2. How is your organization mobilizing to understand and respond to the Two Principal Coldwater Challenges?
  3. What will you do differently than you have done in the past and how will you do it?  (For example, how will your data collection and analysis activities change in light of the Two Principal Coldwater Challenges?   How do you expect your resource management strategies to change?)

We hope to see you there,
Ryan Turgeon - TN Council Chair
